TENNESSEE: Myanmar refugees bring Advent story alive for rural church

A rural church in Smyrna, Tennessee has grown both spiritually and numerically since welcoming 70 Myanmar refugees into its fold.

“It’s a classic example of the Advent story,” said Michael Williams, incoming senior warden at All Saints, Smyrna, Tennessee. “We could not find God, but God found us. In this case, he appeared to us in the form of 70 people who came from Myanmar.”

The Spirit of Giving

Christmas Eve Party

Everyone is welcome at Frank & Leila’s home immediately after the 5:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Service.  Your admission ticket to the celebration will be a heavy hors d’oeuvre and your own beverage.

Please bring food in a ready-to-serve container with serving piece. Coffee, Cokes, ice, meat and rolls will be provided. Sign up on the sheet in the Parish Hall today!

Advent Service Schedule

During the season of Advent, there will be no Wednesday services, the midweek service will resume January 7. Also, there will be no Saturday evening service until January 10.

On Christmas Eve, we’ll have one service at 5 p.m. with a reception following.

Women’s Christmas Luncheon

The Women’s Christmas Luncheon is just around the corner! We want all our ladies to plan to attend - and bring neighbors, friends, and relatives! The date is December 13, Saturday, at 11:30 a.m. at the Grand Hotel. The sign up sheet is on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall. Sign up today!

Join the Fun!

On December 6, at 9 a.m., come to the Parish Hall and make a beautiful Christmas wreath under the supervision of Jane J. A $5 fee gives you a wreath frame, wire, and a light luncheon. The class ends at 12 Noon. Bring your own greens and call Jane for a reservation and her suggestions as to what greens you should bring.

PLEASE NOTE - The Pancake Breakfast at the Community Hall has been changed to December 13 and Santa will be there. Time: 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Cost: $10 adults, $5 children, 12 and under. Funds raised by the Pancake Breakfast are to benefit maintenance of the Community Hall by the Magnolia Springs Community Association.
